Annual April Downtown Walking Tours to begin this weekend

The Annual April Downtown Walking Tours will resume after a one year hiatius due to the coronavirus pandemic. The tours were canceled last year because of the pandemic.

Sheryl Smedley, director of the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Information, says these annual tours were brought about to highlight different cities in the state.

"The downtown walking tour is an initiative by the state tourism office of Alabama and it's been going on for many years," she said.

As a result of the pandemic, Smedley said proper social distancing will be in effect this year.

She said the walking tours are a great way for tourists to see historic parts of the city.

Each guide will provide historical information on each destination along the tour. The free one hour tour will be led by different community leaders around Downtown Selma each Saturday throughout the month.

Smedley will lead the first tour on April 3rd.

Everyone will meet in front of the Selma-Dallas County Public Library each Saturday in April at 10:00 a.m.

The dates of the walking tours are April 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th.
