All coffee lovers in Selma have a reason to celebrate as the beloved Coffee Shoppe Selma has opened a new location near the historical Edmund Pettus Bridge. The new location, Reflections Coffee Shoppe, held its official ribbon cutting ceremony today at noon. Local supporters and city officials crowded the space to support owner Jackie Smith on her new endeavor.

Smith said this labor of love has been a long time coming and she is proud to be a part of something great in Selma.

"I knew in my heart of hearts that it was gonna be something special for Selma," said Smith.

The location of Reflections sits at the foot of one of the most historical sites in American and Civil Rights History, The Edmund Pettus Bridge. The Edmund Pettus Bridge, a national landmark, is where voting rights marchers were confronted and beaten by law enforcement on March 7, 1965. That day is now known as "Bloody Sunday".

Smith said even in the naming the building she wanted to ensure it meant something being that it was on sacred ground.

"As you sit here you're reflecting on not only what has taken place on this side of the bridge, but all that's about to take place on the other side of the bridge as well," she said.

Smith said she is excited to bring something positive to down town Selma that not only helps the city economically, but help aids in the city's moral as well.

"This place is going to be a reflection of everyone that walks through the door," she said.

Selma Dallas County Mayor James Perkins Jr., several other city officials, investors, family members said words of encouragement during the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Reflections will open to the public at 10 am on Monday, March 25, 2024 . Reflections Coffee Shoppe is located at 1014 Water Ave Selma, Al 36703.
